Oil Lamp Chimneys

The chimney is an important part of an oil lamp, it ensures the correct airflow over the wick to get the brightest light without smoke or smell. Our forefathers designed many dozens of styles to improve their lamp over the competition. Sadly many of these original styles are totally obsolete but most lamps will work with a chimney close to the original design.
Often incorrect chimneys have been fitted over the years, therefore it is best to find a chimney to fit the burner rather than just replace the possibly incorrect chimney which is broken.
When ordering check the winder knob on the lamp for any markings, also look under the lamp base for possible makers marks. These will all help to identify the burner and chimney originally fitted to the lamp. Click here to see a list of common burners and descriptions with pictures.
If the lamp is for decoration or has been electrified then any chimney which fits and looks 'in balance' with the lamp will be fine.
