Dietz can trace their history back to 1859 when the company
filed a patent for a flat wick burner using kerosene. The
company produced many designs of Motor lamps, hurricane lamps
and industrial lanterns.
In 1956 the lantern manufacture
moved to Hong Kong whilst the head offices stayed in the USA and
specialist lanterns were made in the USA until 1970.
In 1982
the lantern factory and all the original tooling was moved into
mainland China, with the head office and admin remaining in Hong
Kong. The USA registered Dietz Company closed in 1992
Lantern
manufacture continues in China using much of the original tooling.
